An excerpt from Kylian’s Wings of Wax - NDT performing, as usual.

The music is the stellar Passacaglia in g by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber.

Sorry we’ve been on a bit of a hiatus recently… one of the two people running this blog has the flu, and there’s always other personal madness.

In light of that: fever.  Why not?

Here is footage from the 1944 original cast production of Ballet for Martha/Appalachian Spring. It was originally filmed without music, but some kind soul has gone to the trouble to sync the music with the dance.

Martha Graham as the Bride (all in black), Eric Hawkins as the Husband, May O’Donnell as the Pioneer Woman, and the late, great Merce Cunningham as the Revivalist (the gentleman with the hat - you can see the very tail end of what must have been a spectacular solo at 3:55).

Enjoy.

Forgive the low quality.

This is the first portion of Ailey’s Revelations: I’ve Been Buked, Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel, and Fix Me Jesus.

(Full disclosure: my class is doing a performance and I get to do the 1:14 back bend… I am very, very excited.)
